    What problem would you like to solve?

    Lack of after-school youth programs, lack of community engagement for senior citizens, lack of community, lack of safety, gentrification

    Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?

    With most community members growing detached from their neighbors after-the pandemic, as a community we have not been able to unite against issues such as gentrification and safety. Two major populations that could join forces to effect change for a healthier living environment are the youth (who represent the future progress of our neighborhood) and our elders (who speak for all the history our communities have been through). This is relevant to the community because issues of safety affect our most vulnerable populations. It is a symptom of a community that is not united. Coming together for collective betterment through the healing power of art, addresses all these issues and varying levels.

    What idea do you have to address the problem?

    After-school youth programs combined with elders who volunteer as artistic mentors could come together to create a series of murals around Bushwick that highlights and honors the community's voices and history.

    Who would that help?

    All community members.
