What problem would you like to solve?
Repair the dog runs in Brooklyn that are so unsafe, dog owners can't currently use them.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
The dog population has significantly increased in NYC since 2020 (1 in 2 people in the city now have a dog) but the dedicated dog runs have not been repaired or expanded to match the growing dog population. As a result, people are illegally off leashing their dogs on ball fields, playgrounds and other grass areas in the city.
This significantly deteriorates the green space.
By properly repairing and expanding dog runs in the city, we can keep the growing dog population in the proper areas and make parks/playgrounds/athletic fields safer for the community as a whole to use, extend the longevity of the grass / athletic turf in parks, and overall reduce the cost of wear and tear maintenance on NYC Parks.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Upgrade existing dog runs to K9 turf / install new dog runs in parks without one.
Who would that help?
The community of park users who are frustrated with having dogs on the playgrounds and ball fields because the dog runs are in poor condition and unsafe for dog owners to actually use.
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
Brooklyn / Bushwick
