- Describe the challenge you want to address:
- It’s our fundamental human right to exist in the world free from all forms of violence. As we work to dismantle cultural, political and economic systems that undermine the security and progression of all people, we also want to provide parents, teachers, and students with skills to de-escalate violent situations. Self defense training is one piece of empowering people to feel safe and secure. \n\nHealing justice is about recognizing the ways that violence and trauma impact our bodies and our communities, and that it takes intentional healing, unlearning and relearning to be able to navigate our institutionally oppressive world in a way that could allow us to step into our power.
- Describe your idea and approach to address the challenge:
- Self Defense Goal: Parents, teachers, and students will have space to discuss community safety issues, and learn an array of physical and non physical self defense skills to help them feel more confident in protecting themselves and others. \n\nHealing Justice Goal: Parents, teachers, and students will be provided tools for personal mental health reflection and building deeper relationships with one another. This space will encourage reflection on how their roles impact their bodies and hearts, while brainstorming around self/community care and visioning for a more equitable and resourced future.
