- Describe the challenge you want to address:
- Individuals who do not speak English are at a significant disadvantage in the city (whether that’s because it makes it more difficult to get a job, use the Subway/public transportation, know what their rights are, etc.).
- Describe your idea and approach to address the challenge:
- "Our idea was to create free resources/classes/workshops for individuals whose first language isn't English. While we were mainly thinking of virtual/in-person classes, the funds could also go towards making and distributing packets/leaflets or podcasts/apps that are specifically designed for New York ELL. There are already a ton of English language learning classes throughout the city, so some of the funds could go towards strengthening/developing those. We also wanted the classes to cover certain topics, such as “Know Your Rights,” how to navigate the Subway, figuring out healthcare/benefits, etc."
- Write the zipcode that best represents your New York City community:
- 10013
