The People's Money (2022-2023)
Your Money, Your Community, Your Voice.
Arts for All.
What problem would you like to solve?
I would love to see more cultural institutions such as art galleries and art studios, as well as bookstores in my community of Crown Heights and throughout the city.
Why is it important to solve? Why is it relevant for the community?
There is a lack of cultural institutions throughout the city. Primarily in the poorer neighborhoods there is a high concentration of retail vendors whose businesses are very present such as clothing outlets, smoke shops, jewelry stores, and so forth. To have community bookstores would empower a new generation of readers and writers to become civically engaged.
What idea do you have to address the problem?
Create a literacy center showcasing local voices/writers who are committed to civic engagement and uplifting the arts.
Who would that help?
It would help persons with literacy deficits, language difficulties as well as keeping the youth and seniors engaged.
What NYC borough would benefit from your idea?
Brooklyn
